Transparency: 2020, our dormant phase, and our rebirth

At Change A Destiny, openness and integrity are core to who we are.  We believe that the communities we serve — and the donors and volunteers who stand with us — deserve clarity about our history, our challenges, and our renewed commitment to excellence.

Change A Destiny has spent many years working alongside vulnerable villages, helping communities become self-sustaining, victorious, and resilient. But in 2020, the organization faced an unexpected and unprecedented setback.

While serving abroad, our founder, Judah Becker, contracted a severe case of COVID-19. The local medical  facilities were limited, and he spent three months in an overburdened emergency room, fighting for his life. The illness caused significant neurological complications that continued long after he returned home.

At the same time, the global pandemic halted volunteer work, paused many donor partnerships, and disrupted normal organizational operations.  During this period, our founder and the only full-time volunteer at the time, had to step back almost entirely to focus on recovery. As a result, several administrative requirements — including annual filings and renewal steps — were unintentionally missed. This ultimately led to a lapse in Change A Destiny’s  501(c)(3) status.

Although organizational activity slowed from 2020 through 2024, our model of community empowerment ensured that no village was harmed by the dormancy. In fact, many of them thrived as they were well prepared to face the supply chain issues that harmed so many of the cities around them. Our villages became pandemic hero villages in their surrounding areas, bringing the abundance from their gardens, to needy markets for inexpensive and helpful prices. Because each community we partner with is designed to become self-reliant rather than dependent on continuous outside funding, their  growth, stability, and success continued even during our stateside dormancy.

In 2024, as Judah continued recovering, he felt strongly that Change A Destiny should resume its mission, bringing new hope and life to those who were still unreached, with renewed strength and clarity. A dedicated long-time volunteer, Justus Minardi, who had increasingly taken on leadership responsibilities, was asked to step into the role of President.

Under this new leadership, our administrative systems, governance  structure, and compliance procedures have been fully restored. We have also added to the primary volunteer and board team. Justus is committed to ensuring that our work is both mission-driven and professionally managed, with accountability and transparency as continued guiding principles.

We are pleased to confirm that Change A Destiny’s 501(c)(3) status has been officially reinstated. Our Federal EIN is 35-2380335. All required filings, including the IRS Form 990, are being submitted on schedule.

Moving forward:

• We will maintain full tax compliance every year.
• We will continue improving our organizational systems and oversight.
• We will communicate clearly with donors, partners, and the public regarding financial and administrative matters.
• We will maintain a fallback chain of command and action should anything happen to incapacitate anyone on our primary team and board.

We are entering a new era — one restoring and furthering communication, transparency, strong  governance, and an unwavering dedication to the communities we serve. Change A Destiny is once again active, growing, and fully aligned with it's mission. To transform villages in victorious, self-sustainable, and lasting ways. To rescue children trapped in sexual and labor slavery. And to rehabilitate and tirelessly support our children who have been rescued.
